Our History

Thank you for your interest in this truly amazing program. Escorted Transportation Service Northwest (ETS/NW) provides rides for seniors to their life-sustaining medical and dental appointments within a 160-square mile area in the northwest suburbs of Cook County, Illinois. Trained and insured volunteer drivers use their own cars to transport ETS/NW passengers, wait with them on-site, and return them home again. Our award-winning volunteer drivers are even willing to stop at the pharmacy on the way home to drop off/collect a prescription if needed.

Some important dates in our history:

2006:
Founder Kathy Kasprowicz, with the guidance of mentor Marie Payes, created a program based on a similar one that had been discontinued by another local organization. Carol Anderson and Beth Drost soon joined their efforts in recruiting board members and procuring funds for the little start-up that was dedicated to serving seniors in need of health-related transportation. A formal Board of Directors was recruited

2007:
In February of 2007, ETS/NW moved to its current location in the Arlington Heights Senior Center.

2011:
In September 2011, we had grown large enough to welcome Lynndah Easterwood Lahey as our new Executive Director so Kathy could focus on the heart of the program.

2016 (September 1st):
We reach our 10 year anniversary! Here is our history in some impressive statistics:

  • Total number of rides provided: 23,931
  • Total number of active clients: 1,233
  • Total number of medical destinations: 1,421
  • Total value of volunteer hours donated*:  $   1,568,960.00

*Statistics from independentsector.org

As passengers are only asked for a $12 donation for each trip, a considerable amount of fundraising is required to keep the program “in the black and on the road.”
